On March 19, 2012, about 60 genetically pure bison were relocated from a quarantine facility outside Yellowstone National Park to the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in eastern Montana. The long-awaited move marks the historic homecoming of wild bison to an important part of their historic range on the Great Plains.

Disappearing seals, plummeting fish stocks, and a falling water level all point to the deteriorating health of the Caspian Sea. Ahead of Earth Day, observed on April 22, environmentalists in Azerbaijan have warned that it will take rapid action to save the Caspian from the fate of the Aral Sea.

Protect Our Species

This year’s focus is endangered species. Our world is facing the greatest rate of extinction since we lost the dinosaurs more than 60 million years ago. This is largely the result of human activity including, but not limited to, climate change, deforestation, habitat loss, trafficking, poaching, pollution, and unsustainable agriculture.
